A History of the NCSAM
The government loves acronyms, and the National Cybersecurity Awareness Month is a great example of a useful acronym.
October was established as the National Cybersecurity Month in 2013 by President Barack Obama. It was actually the 10th anniversary of the monthly celebration when the proclamation was formalized into national recognition. The proclamation was made in an effort to increase awareness of online safety and to “empower digital citizens with the tools to make smart decisions as they navigate cyberspace.”
Every year the Department of Homeland Security puts out new information about online safety, digital threats and more. They also have a variety of resources through their “Stop.Think.Connect.” campaign for schools and educational organizations.
