“An investment in knowledge pays the best interest.” – Benjamin Franklin
We know we’re preaching to the choir when we say that education is important. Hugely important.
No matter what industry you’re in, learning is crucial to success. This is especially true in the field of technology, where things are changing constantly.
Staying up on changes and trends isn’t always easy. Learning requires time and effort. There are a few things we’ve found that can make learning a little easier.
Make Learning A Priority
At Executech, we hold daily huddle meetings with our teams, and weekly company-wide training meetings to make sure everyone stays up to date on the latest trends.
Every organization has different needs, but establishing a culture of learning and growth can be one of the most impactful things you can do to increase your bottom line. If you don’t have some way in which employees or colleagues can learn and grow, you need to take steps to allow it to happen.
We also like to listen, watch and read information from across the web to stay current. We wanted to share a few of our favorite sources to get the latest information on technology and business news.
Sources of Business News & Trends
When it comes to business, there’s no shortage of expert opinions and articles. One of our favorite places to get insight into what makes business leaders successful is Medium. Medium is a blogging platform that attracts all kinds of writers, but we’ve seen a lot of helpful articles related to productivity, design, money management and more.
We also love to visit Silicon Slopes for local business news and ideas. Silicon Slopes’ site is actually running on the Medium platform so experts from across the state can contribute their news and ideas. Stay tuned on Silicon Slopes for insights from our owner, Eric Montague.
Sources of Technology News & Trends
There are a lot of different fields and niches when it comes to the technology industry. You may be interested in networking ideas, but not tech gadgets. Or maybe you like coding, but don’t care about hardware. Whatever your technology preferences may be, there’s a news source that caters to your likes.
For more technical articles related to networking, cybersecurity and data, we prefer TechRepublic. For general news on the tech industry, the latest gadgets and more, we like to visit The Verge. Both of these sites offer great articles that will help you stay in the know of new trends, announcements and updates.
Don’t forget, Executech also hosts a weekly tech and business news video series called Between the Bytes. Check in with them every week to get local and national news in the tech and business industries.
Our Favorite Podcasts
If you are regularly battling point of the mountain traffic or live off the beaten path, then podcasts are a must. There’s a wide variety of styles and themes to podcasts but we’ve picked some of our favorite tech and business podcasts.
To hear insights from business executives of some of the largest corporations and wisdom from acclaimed professors, we recommend the Harvard Business Review Ideacast. They cover a variety of topics affecting businesses today.
For a more light-hearted take on random internet trends and memes, we recommend Reply All. These hosts will explore the more quirky sides of the internet and technology at large.
If you’re looking for a more in-depth and tech-focused podcast, then you should check out Accidental Tech.
In-Person Training Opportunities
In addition to learning on your own through the internet and other media, you can also receive in-person training on technology from the experts at Executech. Our Tier III certified technicians can offer training on a variety of topics including; cybersecurity, data backup, moving to the cloud, Outlook, QuickBooks, Excel and much more.
You can also host your own training at our state-of-the-art training facility at the Executech office.
